I may have cleared the interior of the plant (which now actually shows as cleared on my map), but the exterior is a different story. Nothing like stepping out to a morning firefight. And there are a lot of them here to fight. They really did have the town locked down. The industrial grounds make for an interesting combat zone, with lots of options for movement, cover, and the occasional loot. I climb as high as I can to try to get my bearings, but it is a bit difficult. It’s amazing how massive the Corvega Assembly Plant itself is. I suspect it is bigger than Diamond City. Up at the very top near some large globular structure, at the end of a catwalk, there is a Repair Bobblehead, which makes fusion cores last 10% longer and is VERY worth the effort.

I make my way back to the pipe I entered from and continue my sweep of the city, moving on down the street from the pipe to the next open door. I enter as it begins to rain. A sci-fi movie poster hanging over a crib greets me as I enter. A quaint small family home with a little patio, albeit one that seems to have a window on a nearby parking garage. More pre-war culture on display.

Across the street is a fire escape that leads to the top of a ruined building (and some ghouls). A makeshift catwalk has been laid across the rooftops here, and I realize this is where I sniped my first raiders in Lexington from across the clearing. The Fat Man nuke launcher should fetch a great price. I clear the building the catwalk leads to floor by floor and find its entrance before quickly retracing my steps to continue my circuit.

The garage next to the odd little home is empty, so I move on to the next building. I shoot a ghoul on the second floor and hear lots of them but see nothing. Soon I realize Piper is actually still on the street below and swarmed with ghouls. She goes down just as I get there attention and kill a couple. I finish the rest off with melee attacks as they move in. Fortunately, in this game companions don’t die, they’re just taken out of the fight for a bit.

Finally, I’ve come full circle and see Slocum’s Joe, and the Red Rocket Truck Stop next to it that I haven’t investigated yet. It’s mostly empty, but there are crafting stations around it, including a power armor station out back. I take the opportunity to complete my transition to Model C power armor, and to do some repairs.

Wrapping up my tour of the city in the dark, I find plenty of ghouls, but not much else. Certainly no answers for the mystery of Slocum’s Joe’s basement. I head back to the Starlight Drive In to drop off some of the extra supplies I’ve been carrying. It’s 2 am when I park my power armor and lay down in bed.
