I’m a PhD candidate at Georgia State University in the Department of Communication, and my primary interests lie in video game studies, ethics, and new media studies. My dissertation, which I successfully defended in January 2018, looks at how games can prompt moral reflection in players, as well as how points of reflection fit into the temporal rhythms of gameplay, and with other states often described in game studies.

This site will showcase some of that, but it will also contain general reviews, other theoretical musings, and some ongoing play-by-plays of my experience with particular games. In my reviews, I will give a brief overview of books I encounter in my research, followed by a more personal stance engaging particular ideas from my own interests. My play-by-plays may be treated as fun or data gathering–or, as I like to view them, a bit of both. I’ve ultimately decided to pick out certain highlights within these posts, such as reviews or theoretical interventions, by making those sections bold for those that would rather skip the background details in favor of more in-depth commentary.
